Dividing Fractions

  1. Change ÷ to ×
  2. Flip the second fraction in the equation
  3. Multiply numerator to numerator, denominator to denominator

Eg. 34÷25\frac{\text{3}}{\text{4}} ÷ \frac{\text{2}}{\text{5}}

  1. 34×25\frac{\text{3}}{\text{4}} × \frac{\text{2}}{\text{5}} The equation is changed to multiplication

  2. 34×52\frac{\text{3}}{\text{4}} × \frac{\text{5}}{\text{2}} The fraction on the right has it's denominator and numerator inverted

  3. 3×5=15\text{3} × \text{5} = \text{15} 4×2=8\text{4} × \text{2} = \text{8} ANS=158\text{ANS} = \frac{\text{15}}{\text{8}} The fractions are multiplied together, the answer is 158\frac{\text{15}}{\text{8}}

  4. 158=178\frac{\text{15}}{\text{8}} = {\text{1}} \frac{\text{7}}{\text{8}} OPTIONAL: Simplfy the improper fraction
